The All New 2025 CLA Electric – Reset Your Expectations
The Mercedes CLA has always been a desirable machine especially amongst our discerning car hire customers. While technically the outgoing CLA model is almost identical to an A-Class saloon, there’s a certain style to it that takes it beyond the admittedly excellent A-Class underpinnings.
The new 2025 Mercedes CLA Electric however, is an entirely different story. THIS is a statement from the home of the three pointed star that it’s not going to rest on its laurels and brand equity for its next generation junior exec’ cruiser. The CLA was always going to be a hit no matter what they did with it, but props to Mercedes for not playing safe and and ‘just’ making another great looking smaller car as an ‘entry level’ Coupé for the up and coming executive. Instead, Mercedes have gone all out and made the CLA Electric a showpiece of what can be achieved in terms of style, technology and crucially electric range. This is already one of the longest rangeed electric cars on the road, brought to you by the company which already had two of the longest ranged cars available at the top end of their range – the EQE and EQS.
A Modern Showpiece – The CLA Electric
The Mercedes CLA Electric is a brand new design from the ground up and features Merc’s latest design language throughout, but it’s the sheer attention to detail and the tech’ extras lavished on the new EV that’ll make it turn heads. The attention to detail is phenomenal. Despite being electric, the new CLA is definitely saloon shaped rather than being a ‘lozenge’ like the EQE and EQS. It also has the modern trending design feature of full width lightbars front and back, but that’s been done by literally everyone recently. What’s super cool though is that the grill badge as well as the grill itself is not only fully backlit, but that backlighting is animated, giving a wholly frivolous, but wholly spectacular lightshow to greet you as well as to wow bystanders.
Inside the cabin the electric CLA is a decidedly upmarket place to sit with premium design and premium materials all working together to make this feel like it’s far further up the Mercedes product scale. The CLA has never been a large car, but it definitely feels larger thanks to the space saving inherrant to EV’s which don’t need clutter like gear columns, engines and transmission tunnels eating into the cabin space. Also the panoramic sunroof assists in the feeling of space.
The lightshow on the outside is reflected inside thanks to the ambient lighting and of course the massive bank of touchscreen real estate up front. When we say massive, we mean it too. For a modestly sized car a 14″ main screen is simply GINORMOUS and the dashboard is raked at a precise angle to minimise the sort of glare you might be used to on other vehicles so you’ll get to enjoy it no matter how bright the sun gets. With augmented reality sat-nav and parking assistance all built in, that screen gets put to good use. Less ‘useful’ but just for fun, there’s a selfie cam built into the cabin.

How Does The New CLA Electric Perform?
The headline feature of the Mercedes CLA electric is that range. Mercedes claim just shy of 500 miles (462), which puts it up there with the best all electric ranges you’ll find anywhere. Indications are that drivers could expect to achieve closer to 400 miles give or take, but that’s still mightily impressive, especially considering the 320kW charging speed which, on an equally matched rapid charger could see the new CLA charging from 10% to 80% in just over 20 minutes.
Electric vehicles are often blistering in terms of performance. The Electric CLA balances comfort with acceleration, but even so, it’ll surge from 0-60 in a decidedly assertive 6.7 seconds and keep going to 130mph….. but please don’t!
That focus on comfort doesn’t mean it’s wallowy on the corners either. On contry lanes and on motorways, the new CLA is pefectly stable as well as responsive thanks to the low centre of gravity provided by the centrally mounted battery beneath the floor as well as some fantastic engineering by Mercedes.
All in all, this is an incredible and bold new car from Mercedes and we predict it’ll prove even more poluar than the outgoing model. Just like the EQE an EQS, it’s sure to prove that it’s way ahead of it’s time! Naturally, the best electric car hire deals are to be found right here at Westwood!
