Mercedes CLA
The Mercedes CLA is a phenomenally successful premium cruiser which has been deservedly popular for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, the Mercedes brand has an undeniable allure. One of the best known German marques which brings with it a certain image of opulence, style and quality. However, this isn’t just a mid-sized car with a premium badge on the from for added gravitas, it’s ALL Mercedes and brings with it the quality and luxury you’d expect from a vehicle bearing the ‘Stuttgart Star’. No wonder it’s such a hit with our long term car hire customers!
At Westwood, we regularly have examples of the Mercedes CLA in a variety of configurations and trim levels. At the time of writing we have the very latest 4 door saloon version in the AMG-Line Executive trim, (further upgraded by us), which for the current model year now has many of the features previously seen only on the Premium and Premium Plus trims.
Additionally, we also have the phenomenal looking and surprisingly extra practical Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake, which takes all the striking looks of a four-door coupe and much of the practicality of an estate, but without even a hint of the boxy frumpiness you might associate with a more traditional family station wagon.
In both body styles the Mercedes CLA is massively popular car, beloved by private customers as well as company fleet users too, thanks to the brand, the overall look, and the comparatively low price for a premium car which doesn’t compromise on anything.
When describing the CLA, some might describe it as a coupe version of the A-Class and in some respects that’s reasonably accurate, however in others, it’s not accurate at all. Let’s address that comparison head on. The Mercedes A-Class is an exceptional car. The current version is as good as the A-Class has ever been and that’s a bold statement considering what a fantastic car the mid-sized hatchback previously known a the ‘baby-benz’ truly is.
Up front, the cabin does indeed share quite a lot with the A-Class and that’s no criticism at all. The cutting-edge technology, the beautifully appointed and tastefully framed dual screens and the combination of piano black and brushed metal finishes on pretty much everything else, makes the cabin as elegant as it is exciting. Even between versions and model years n the CLA’s there are subtle differneces in the interior trim, but all are ‘proper’ Mercedes through and through.
The driving experience and overall look are where the two cars are at their most distinctive. Both excellent, but differing in feel.
The Mercedes CLA, being longer is inherrantly more stable, that’s not to say that the A-Class is unstable (it isn’t, not by a long shot, quite the opposite!) but the extra length of the CLA serves to refine the road manners of the already impeccably behaved hatchback, giving the coupe terrific composure throught he twisty fun stuff and extra comfort cruising on the motorways. The look of the CLA in both coupe and shooting brake variants is where it REALLY stands out. Mercedes haven’t just stretched out the A-Class a bit, they’ve sculpted and streamlined it for a complete coupe ‘glow-up’ which in either guise looks absolutely sumptuous and does exactly what every Mercedes should – look classy and expensive, giving off an air of success and good taste.
