The Chery Tiggo 8 Summit PHEV ‘Super Hybrid’ is an astonishingly good, high spec’ 7 seat SUV from Chery Motors. You mght be forgiven for not having heard the name ‘Chery’ before, but while being new to the UK, Chery Motors is actually one of the World’s largest vehicle brands. Chery are also the parent company of recent UK market entrants Omoda and Jaecoo, who’ve gone from being completely unknown to outselling pretty much everyone in the space of a year. Chery owns them both, so we’re expecting HUGE things now they’re joining their spinoff brands!
So, just how have Jaecoo and Omoda become so big so fast? Simple, they produce great looking, exceptionally well equipped, high-tech cars that match German brands blow for blow, but do it at a fraction of the price. They’ve gone down a storm with our car hire customers. The Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid follows this same formula.
While being a great looking large SUV, of which there are plenty, the Tiggo 8 also joins a much smaller sub-niche in that it’s a seven seater. Competing against the Landrover Discovery and Mercedes GLB etc, the Tiggo 8 in top of the range Summit specification is a 7 seater easily capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with these premium marques in terms of quality, but then you look at the price difference and have to ask why you’d consider paying SO much more for the others when the Chery cuts the cost so low without cutting any corners.
Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV Summit – Super Hybrid
We’ve opted for the top of the range version of the Tiggo, which is named ‘Summit’ specification, with a PHEV (plug in hybrid) drive system. The list of features is absolutely mind boggling, but suffice to say, if you can think of it, or if you’ve seen it in a Mercedes, the top spec’ Tiggo also has it and to a similar standard.
Stuff you’ll like though:
- The tilt and slide panoramic sunroof runs the full length of the car and makes the already spacious interior feel even more roomy.
- Dynamic ambient lighting can be set to change in response to you driving or even the beat of your music played over the Sony stereo. Exterior lights also animate, Audi style, to greet you.
- Massive, 15.6″ high definition touch screen, with impressive graphics and animations, with all the feature you’d expect.
- If you get out and forget to pick up your phone, the car’s voice speaks up and reminds you you’ve left it
- The front passenger seat not only fully reclines, but has an extending foot rest too. With a multilayered massage built in.
- 360 degree panoramic, repositionable reversing cameras are always super impressive.
- The hybrid system means the ‘official’ consumption is 202mpg on paper … but in the real world you’ll still get more than 50 mpg which for a car this size is massively impressive.
- Company car users will enjoy super low BIK (company car tax), road tax, and other savings thanks to the hybrid system reducing the C02 rating to almost nothing.
- People who’ve paid much more for a car nowhere near as good will give you the ‘side-eye’!
Will The Tiggo 8 Last?
It’s a valid question. After all, the cynics might expect with the absurdly low price, that there simply must be a catch somewhere. However, given what we’ve seen from the Jaecoo and Omoda models we’ve had in so far, which have been rock solid reliable, there’s little to worry about. Besides that, the Chery Tiggo 8 comes with a seven year 100,000 mile warranty, as well as an unlimited mileage warranty within the first three years. A confident guarantee and the match for any other manufacturer.
Not that this is a concern when you choose to flexible car hire, contract car hire or car lease from us. While you have it, the Chery Tiggo 8 is still our vehicle and as such any problems are our problems not yours. So with this being the case, for a super low cost, you can have an insanely good car, with no risk at all.
