Mercedes EQC – Luxury Electric Car Hire

Mercedes EQC Electric Car Hire Wigan

Electric Car Hire is quickly increasing in popularity as battery powered vehicles continues to expand into mainstream motoring. If you’re looking to experience real luxury though, you’re always going to appreciate a Mercedes. With this being the case, if you want to combine the massive benefits of a fully electric car, with German engineering knowhow and class leading elegance, all rolled up into an up to the minute SUV, packed with the latest technology, the just released Mercedes EQC might well be exactly the car you’re looking for!

With the Mercedes EQC, Merc’ have gone along a similar route to that which was used to bring us the Audi E-Tron (also available from Westwood), namely doing what both marque do well – creating a big luxury, well engineered car, while avoiding the temptation to make their new EV’s look so ‘different’ as to risk putting off their core demographic. Like the Audi E-Tron, the Mercedes EQC is, first and foremost, a Mercedes that looks and feels like a Mercedes. The fact that you plug it in rather than fill it up is very much played down.

That’s not to say that there isn’t some new design language to mark out the EQC as being a little bit different. The electric Mercedes shares a lot of its underpinnings and internals with the GLC, but apart from swapping the engine, fuel tank and gearbox for electric motors and a battery, there are some extra flourishes which mark it out as an electric vehicle.

It seems to be a convention that any manufacturer offering an electric vehicle adds a little bit of blue detailing as a visual clue that there’s a battery beneath the bonnet and the Mercedes EQC follows this trend in a subtle, understated way. Additionally, the headlights are linked by a narrow light strip at the leading edge of the bonnet which has to be seen in the dark to be truly appreciated, you’ll definitely be able to spot the EQC’s at night. The tail lights are similarly connected. Otherwise, this is pure, full blooded Mercedes design language, with sumptuous leather, glossy plastics and shiny metallic detailing, further enhanced by multi-colour ambient lighting. Just what your typical Mercedes driver is expecting.

Why Choose a Mercedes EQC over a GLC?

Given how much they have in common, it’s a fair question to ask why you should choose a Mercedes GLC over the very similar and more conventional GLC. Both are incredible cars (and both available from us). In truth it all comes down to personal preference. Both are beyond excellent, but for the sake of completeness, there are several factors which might nudge you in the direction of the electric Mercedes.

Like all electric cars, the Mercedes EQC benefits from massive savings when it comes to Benefit in kind tax and road tax. It’s also completely exempt from the London Low Emissions Zone charges and the Congestion Charge as well. There are similar congestion/emissions charge schemes on the cards for other UK cities, so EV’s like the EQC will almost certainly be exempt from those too. When it comes to cost per mile to ‘fill up’, electric vehicles cost a fraction of the cost of their petrol/diesel counterparts.

The topping up of the battery and the range however are what you’d probably like to know about. You have a number of options. From a domestic charging point or one installed at your office, you can charge up at home overnight, or at work during the day, just remember to plug it in! If you find a 100kw rapid charger out on your travels (and your electric car will help you find charging points) the EQC can be charged up to 80% in as little as 35 minutes. Admittedly, this is slower than filling up a regular tank, but bear in mind that you can’t fill up with petrol or diesel at home, or at work, or at the supermarket, or at the gym. These being only a few places you’ll frequently find electric car charging spots. Don’t forget, EV parking spots are usually reserved just for EV’s and as well as being empty most of the time, they’re usually amongst the best spots in any car park. You may never have to search for a parking space ever again, even when regular spots are in demand on even the busiest of car parks. You’ll also never again have to visit a smelly petrol station!

Fully charged, the Mercedes EQC can travel up to 259 miles (WLTP figures) and accelerate from a standing start to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. For a large, luxurious car to go that fast in near silence, we challenge you not to have your breath taken away! That 259 miles, while a little less than you’d get from a conventional car is more than adequate for nearly anyone. After all, most people don’t travel that far in a week. Considering that you have your own exclusive reserved parking space wherever you go, you might as well charge up whenever you’re in one – so it’s actually more convenient when you think about it!
