What Makes A Successful Test Drive?
The most vital part of choosing to buy is the test drive
Below are some tips and guidelines that you can follow, and questions to ask whilst taking a used vehicle out on a test drive from us. At Westwood, we always want to make sure that our customers are 100% happy and 100% committed to buying from us – so a test drive is a large portion of the sales exchange
Make sure you have all of your relevant documents with you
All you need for a test drive is your driving licence. This will be checked before you go out with one of our team. It’s as easy as that
Get yourself comfortable in the vehicle
When starting on a test drive, make sure that you feel at ease in the drivers seat. You don’t need to set off straight away so ensure that you are comfortable and have the seat adjusted to your driving requirements. This also includes the steering wheel and mirrors
Ask enough questions
The worst thing that you can do on a viewing and test drive is forget the questions that you want to ask. You can pre prepare for the test drive by bringing in a sheet of questions with you to ask about the vehicle. While you’re inside, you may need to ask about the functionality of the car such as the handbrake, park assist, engine stop/start and navigation controls. All of our staff will know exactly how the car works and will be more than happy to explain the way the car operates. Keep asking questions and don’t be afraid to ask twice, after all this is your test drive!
Don’t just sit in the drivers seat
Make sure you look around the car, look in the boot, under the bonnet and ensure there is enough room and space for what you need. Do the seat fold down in the back? Is there enough room for luggage in the boot?
Requesting your route
At Westwood our standard route for a test drive is in a residential area and back, however if you want to drive on the motorway or dual carriageways then we will be more than happy to accommodate you, just speak to your sales advisor beforehand. As well as driving, manoeuvring is also a major part of the vehicles capability. Try a turning circle, a parallel park, reverse and a roundabout as some guides to ensure you’re happy with how the car moves
Make sure that you’re completely happy with everything!
Are the brakes strong enough, have you tested the wipers? Is the A/C functional and CarPlay working with your phone? If the car or van you’re test driving has all of these extras make sure that you test them al and are happy with how they work
Most new vehicles have Bluetooth or CarPlay connectivity, if you use your phones to SATNAV and listen to music as well as hands free, then this is a definite must for checking that it is compatible and functional
