Samsung’s ‘In-Traffic’ App Could Be a Boon for Businesses
Stay Safe Whilst Driving with Samsung
Another company is working on something to help you resist texting and driving.
Samsung is working on a new app called ‘In-Traffic Reply’. Basically, it’s like an out-of-office message – it will automatically tell those trying to contact you that you’re driving, and that you’ll get back to them later.
It’s currently still in testing, but it looks like the Netherlands (where it’s being tested) are enjoying it.
You can also customize the message it sends back – you can currently choose from a basic, professional sounding text a la ‘I’m currently driving, I will get into contact with you as soon as I can’ or a more friendlier version. Rumour has it, it involves some cool animations.
Samsung also plans for you to be able to use your own canned message. This could be really useful for businesses- you could send back all the other ways someone can contact you or your team, refer them to Head Office or to a website, or even give them a timeline as to when you’ll arrive, if you’re on a long drive.
But the most interesting thing about In-Traffic Reply is that it does this automatically – meaning that you can’t forget to set it! As soon as it detects that you are moving fast – whether you are in a vehicle or on a pushbike – it will activate. It’s unclear how it will be able to distinguish between passenger and driver – Samsung was not forthcoming about how this would work. Considering the app is still in testing, that’s not that surprising. Why give the game away before it’s even launched?
In-Traffic Reply could not only be a really good thing in the battle against texting and driving, but could be a very useful business tool as well. Ensuring that your drivers are safe, and maybe ensuring that your customers know that their delivery driver really is on their way.
